Build Capability. Don’t Remove the Hurdles.

Development happens when a Coach builds the Coachee’s capability to overcome challenges—not when the Coach makes the journey easier by removing those challenges.

The race the Coach once ran was different. This is the Coachee’s race. The Coach’s role is neither to run it for them nor to clear the track ahead. It is to prepare them to run it successfully.

That calls for a different art—the art of building capability rather than providing solutions. The Coach helps the Coachee anticipate and identify hurdles, assess them intelligently, develop the confidence and competence to navigate them, and keep moving purposefully towards the finish line.

Ultimately, the measure of effective coaching is not how many hurdles the Coach removes, but how capable the Coachee becomes of overcoming hurdles independently.

Great Coaches don’t clear the track.

They build better runners.
