The Tree, The Rain And The Culture of Leadership

A tree without leaves cannot protect you from the rain. Yet, paradoxically, the rain can protect you from the leafless tree.
Leadership is like the tree; organisational culture is like the rain.
On a rainy day, you may find shelter for a while under a strong tree with a rich canopy of leaves. Good leadership is invaluable. But truly great leadership does not emerge in isolation—it is nurtured by, and is often the natural outcome of, a healthy organisational culture.
Organisations occasionally experience toxic leadership. In such situations, a strong and positive culture becomes a protective shield for employees through fair processes, transparent systems, and trusted platforms that ensure accountability and provide a voice to those affected.
Good leadership flourishing within a toxic culture is often a matter of luck and serendipity. Good leadership thriving in a positive, nurturing culture is a far more logical and sustainable outcome.
Good leadership builds culture; good culture protects people when leadership fails.
The depth of this analogy becomes clearer with experience. Working under different leaders and across multiple organisations teaches an important lesson: while leaders shape our daily experience, it is culture that ultimately determines whether an organisation nurtures people, tolerates dysfunction, or sustains excellence over time.

Very true Adil. Reminded me of the Sanskrit Saying "dharmo rakshati rakshitah " which loosely translates to "Dharma protects those who protect it ". Thank you for your valuable nuggets.
