Have the fortitude to stay deep. Many professionals tell me their greatest frustration is working for managers who cannot understand or appreciate the quality of their work. The temptation then is to lower one's standards to match the expectations of those above.

My response is simple ... if you are an ocean, remain an ocean. Do not become a pond merely because others cannot swim. A manager's inability to recognise excellence does not diminish excellence. Never dilute your thinking, ambition, or standards to accommodate mediocrity.

The Ocean Mindset comprises of depth, possibility, directions, purpose, strength and impact. Compared to this, the Pond Mindset represents shallow thinking , limited possibilities, no directions, fear of difference, insecurity and desire for comfort. You are born under lucky stars of you are born with an Ocean Mindset.

The world has enough Ponds. What it needs are oceans with the courage to remain oceans. If you are lucky to be an Ocean, continue to be that Ocean that you are. You will never be happy killing yourself becoming a Pond particularly to suit the inadequacies of your incompetent Manager. !
