LET IT RAIN

“The best thing one can do when it is raining is to let it rain.”
Often, we fail to realise that some things are simply beyond our control. Much as we may desperately want an outcome to be different, we may have little or no influence over it.
Yet we resist.
We become upset and frustrated, expend enormous emotional energy, and sometimes even vitiate the environment around us—all because reality refuses to obey our wishes.
Imagine it is raining heavily and you absolutely need to go out wearing white trousers. What can you do?
Well, your options are limited. You can decide not to go out. You can change into darker clothes. Or you can wear your white trousers, carry an umbrella, carefully avoid the puddles, and hope for the best. Or maybe pack and carry your white trousers to the destination and change your dark trousers with the white !!!
But there is one option you simply do not have: You cannot stop the rain.
And therein lies a useful lesson about life. Wisdom lies in recognising the difference between what is within our control and what is not. Exercise your choices fully where you have them. But where you don't, don't waste your energy fighting the rain.
The Stoics have a beautiful expression for this: Amor fati — love your fate. It means more than merely tolerating what happens. It means accepting reality without bitterness and then asking: Given this is what life has brought me, how do I make the best of it?
- Carry the umbrella.
- Avoid the puddles.
- Protect the white trousers as best
you can.
But let it rain. For that is sometimes the wisest thing you can do
