The human transference of fear is a common phenomenon. Many individuals believe that their fears are inherently frightful and that others should share these fears as a result. This belief in normalcy leads them to caution, warn, and even admonish others for their safety, often driven by good intentions. Dramatic narratives often amplify these cautions.
Many human failures and limitations can be traced back to this fear transference, especially when it involves respected or influential figures such as parents, teachers, friends, and societal idols. The transferor projects their anxieties and worries onto others, who may not have experienced the fear firsthand. However, the deep love, respect, and reverence the transferee holds for the transferor makes them susceptible to adopting these fears. Human progress can be hindered by fears that individuals have not personally encountered but have been unconsciously instilled with, rendering them unknowingly to become victims of these fears.
This emotional and psychological phenomenon, known as 'fear contagion,' involves absorbing the emotional states of those around us and unconsciously mirroring them. It is crucial for leaders, teachers, parents, societal influencers, doctors, police, military leaders, and media creators to recognize and be mindful of the behavioral concept of Social Contagion. By doing so, they can help prevent the unconscious reflection of negative social influences and beliefs within society.
